Union Square Cocktail Crawl

Let’s chop it up with the tourists

Season 4 Leslie GIF by Parks and Recreation

Conventional wisdom says there’s no reason to be in Union Square. It’s touristy, dirty, all the storefronts are vacant, and there’s nothing really to do up there. All of this is true except that last thing.

Taking advantage of high availability of space, luxury retailers are expanding their footprints while new bars and restaurants are cropping up on every corner. Nestled between 3ish star hotels you’ll find outstanding cocktail bars that‘ll make you rethink that trip to the Nike store. Bottoms up:

Peacekeeper is a serene oasis that quickly morphs into a rager if you stick around long enough. The light wood finishes, dangling greenery, and huge open skylight successfully convey the relaxed, sunny vibes that the ownership team of Harper & Rye and Tipsy Pig fame were shooting for.

It’s perfect for hanging around and playing pool after a big group brunch, a sexy first date, or a late night when things are still ramping up.

PCH is a cool bar for cool people and for you when you feel like feeling cool. Great music that gets steadily louder throughout the night bumps from the huge speakers lining the walls while you sample their extensive selection of cocktails.

Besides being the only SF bar on this year’s 50 Best Bars in North America, they have a daily happy hour featuring $11 highball variations, a pretty serious punch bowl if that’s the vibe, plus one of SF’s favorite santa bars.

SF’s notorious tiki bar scene has never been stronger and the wood-paneled interior of Pagan Idol is one of the best.

Its ability to serve as a launching point for a great night and a haven at the end of the night ensure you always have a reason to stop by.
