A Big Day in The Mission
Pop off

The Mission has always been the cool spot that people love to diss while simultaneously wishing they were cool enough to claim it as their own. It’s the only neighborhood where a two-Michelin star restaurant shares a corner with one of the city’s top taquerias, which is also right down the block from a patisserie that bakes a soft boiled egg into a muffin.
The crown jewel of the neighborhood, however, is Mission Dolores Park. And while it’s perfectly normal to grab some sandwiches and a spikeball set for a day in the park, sometimes you wanna turn it up a notch. Dig in:

We’ve been blessed with Foreign Cinema’s presence on Mission St. since 1999, but it took an impending bankruptcy in 2001 to bring in the chef couple pairing of John Clark and Gayle Pirie and their Zuni Café roots.
The restaurant is famous for screening movies in the courtyard at night (and fried chicken), but it packs a punch for brunch too. Once you’ve had your fill of pop tarts, hustle over to Dolores Park to digest.

What a serene oasis // image credit: me
Perched above Lolinda, El Techo is a rooftop institution in a city with not nearly enough of them. After a day in the park there’s nowhere better to watch the sunset and cool down with a margarita in hand.
The bar is technically standing room only if you’re not there to eat, but if you really feel like sitting down you may as well order some empanadas.

Good Good Culture Club is the slightly unpredictable but no less fun little sibling of Liholiho Yacht Club. In keeping with Chef Ravi Kapur‘s vision of bright, fun food that evokes his Hawaiian heritage, GGCC is the perfect place to end your altogether over the top day in the mission (or refuel before heading to Make Out Room).
