Your new favorite thing

Gather round and listen

i miss you GIF

Well dear readers it’s been a year, and while I haven’t had much time to write (this is a lie, Reels has me in a chokehold), the R&D machine behind Jack’s List is stronger than ever. While I can’t promise you the scheduled delight you were once used to, I hope you don’t mind me popping in every now and again.

The occasion for this drop-by is to share with you your new favorite things. You might think that sounds presumptuous and maybe it is, but the fun of this city is that no matter how long you live here, there’s always something to discover. These spots aren’t necessarily new, but they were new to me and hopefully you’ll find something here that will become a little part of your San Francisco story. Dig in:

🌯 Breakfast Little

My phone did not eat first // image credit: The Infatuation

Let me be clear: I take breakfast burritos very seriously. I’ve scoured every neighborhood I’ve ever lived in, traveled citywide, and a great breakfast burrito has eluded me for almost seven years. Tragic.

That’s not to say that most restaurants can’t staple together cheese, eggs, and a tortilla, but that is not what gives a breakfast burrito a soul. Breakfast Little found that soul, and it is more than the sum of its delicious parts. It is the best, and I’ll stake my reputation on that.

🍗 Collina / collinasf.com

Your new favorite chicken // image credit: me

Collina is Seven Hills’s jeans and sneakers-wearing sister. The space itself is small and dark in a somewhat romantic, somewhat neglected way. But underneath the intentionally dressed-down space is some of the best Italian food the city has to offer.

While I could wax poetic about the delicate pastas, impossibly delicious risotto balls, and world-class service, you’re going to be a regular at Collina for the chicken. The perfectly roasted chicken is lifted higher by creamed kale and seared mushrooms that remind you that food can be good without being fussy or viral or new. Collina has easily knocked Zuni Cafe off its chicken throne and I couldn’t be happier with our new queen.

🍣 Kibatsu / kibatsusushi.com

Have you ever seen more perfect salmon? // image credit: me

How Kibatsu flew under my radar for so long is a mystery. It is hands down one of the most beautiful, intimate restaurants in the city with equally beautiful food to match. I won’t spend too much time trying to describe the experience, you’ll have to see for yourself.
