Parents Weekend 101

Put your best foot forward

If you’re anything like me then your parents coming to town is the ultimate opportunity to eat at the best restaurants with no financial consequences. Given all the hate our city receives from basically everyone not from here, it’s important to leave a good impression. Look no further:

There likely isn’t a restaurant that has had more of an impact on San Francisco and Californian cuisine as a whole than Zuni Cafe. The restaurant was founded in 1979 by Billy West and quickly became not only a culinary icon, but a cultural one as well. If you take your parents to one restaurants for their first time in the city, this is it.

NOTE: that NYT article I linked to is one of my favorite pieces of journalism, worth a read when you have some time.

🧆 Kokkari Estiatorio / kokkari.com

Kokkari feels like sitting down for a family dinner if your family owned an estate in Greece. If at all possible try to sit in the front room to get a view of whatever happens to be roasting on the open fireplaces. The menu is a mouthful, good luck!

Order This ⬇️

  • Dolmathes

  • Spanakopita

  • Kolokitheokeftethes

  • Saghanaki

  • Arnisio souvlaki

  • Simerina psaria

  • Katsikaki stifado

  • Baklava

🥩 House of Prime Rib / houseofprimerib.net

HOPR is on a list of restaurants where a 10pm reservation is totally acceptable but I wouldn’t book that slot for your parents. This place is a well-oiled machine that delivers nothing short of a great meal and a guaranteed good time without exception.

Order This ⬇️

  • Martini

  • Prime rib

  • Get the idea?

NOTE: the pro tip is to pair up and split the King Henry cut - you each get your own sides and split a gigantic piece of meat.
