Eat like the Roys

Billion dollar vibes without the family drama

I’ve got good news and bad news for you this week. The bad news is that there are only two more episodes of Succession, and while I’m glad that it’s not ending a cratering mess like Game of Thrones did, it is without a doubt the best thing on TV right now.

Despite the fact that I‘ve never seen anyone on the show actually eat anything, they have a knack for setting an ethereal dining scene. The good news is that we can enjoy the same moody vibes in SF while we wait for the next season of The Last of Us.

And if you haven’t seen these shows yet…I mean, come on.

 💎 Boulevard / boulevardrestaurant.com

Boulevard strikes the perfect balance between opulence and comfort. The rich, palacial interior makes you feel both that you’ve come home after a long day and that you need to be on your best behavior.

The kitchen doesn’t shy away from trying new things and cooking seasonally while the service, simultaneously warm and invisible, provides a consistently superior experience. You’ll leave wondering why you can’t eat here everyday, then remember that you are not, in fact, the CEO of Waystar Royco.

🥩 Niku Steakhouse / nikusteakhouse.com

At first glance a meal at Niku is serious business, but the longer you sit, absorbing the glamour of the setting, the food, and the impressive wine list, the softer the restaurant appears.

Niku’s industrial ambience and exquisite menu helped earn the restaurant its first Michelin star after just two years in business. They’re known for Wagyu beef that rocks your world but don’t skimp on the Japanese-influenced small plates and sides.

🍗 State Bird Provisions / statebirdsf.com

Few restaurants embrace California’s relaxed approach to fine dining as well as State Bird Provisions. The perpetually high energy and roving dim-sum carts of precious goods ensures maximum fun and food while you watch the open kitchen operate like clockwork.

You can always snag the core favorites but the kitchen changes it up enough that you’ll always discover something new and delicious (like tofu noodle carbonara). If you haven’t made your first trip yet, consider this a sign.

Order This ⬇️

  • Hog island oysters

  • Little gems wedge (they had an insane peach & jalapeño salad last time I was there)

  • Duck liver mousse & almond financiers

  • Pork dumplings

  • Pork belly salad

  • Garlic bread

  • Sourdough-sauerkraut pecorino & ricotta pancakes

  • CA state bird with provisions

  • Jasmine blossom ice cream sandwich
